This seminar will consider how visual materials have contributed to perceptions of people and places in Scotland as rural and remote. The analysis draws upon recent historical work with photography and film, including photojournalism, documentary, promotional footage, ethnological research and travelogue, as well as exploring alternative accounts developed at local level.
