Simon Fildes has worked in a range of organisations and educational institutions as a researcher, creative producer, project manager and teacher. He has spent most of his working life as a freelance in the arts, music and media sectors, editing and producing for broadcast television, arts and corporate sectors while developing a personal practice in creative media arts.

After completing a Biology degree at Stirling University, Simon spent time working as a musician before going on to gain an arts post-graduate in Electronic Imaging at DJCAD, Dundee University. More recently studying for a MSc degree in Sustainable development through the University of the Highlands and Islands, Centre for Mountain Studies gaining a Distinction. Combined with his work experience this education gives Simon a true interdisciplinary outlook.

Simon is a respected editor of dance films and arts documentaries. Over the past 18 years Simon has edited and co-produced on most of the video works directed by his partner and collaborator Katrina McPherson including award-winning videos such as ‘Moment’ and ‘There is a Place’. The work has taken Simon filming and teaching from Ardnamurchan to Addis Ababa, Hong Kong to Sydney; lecturing, leading workshops and chairing debates from Beijing to Buenos Aires, Den Haag to Shenzhen.

In 2006 he was short-listed for the £30,000 Creative Scotland Awards. Collaborations include interactive works made for the web, and the Move-me.com project. a touring interactive video dance installation and website. He has received a range of arts funding and has exhibited in galleries, site specific locations, undertaking a range of residency commissions including being selected for Scotland’s Year of the Artist programme in 2000.

Alongside editing, Simon’s wide ranging technical and creative skills have enabled him to work as a production manager and assistant director, technical support and graphic design, project management and business development.
